Table of Contents

Colt M1911
Because it’s a recognizable and iconic weapon, the M1911 is a popular subject for modding in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community. Mods improve its stats, add new animations, or even replace it with different M1911 variants, which speaks to the community’s desire for more variety and realism.
While often forgotten, the pistol’s sound design is crucial to its feel. The report is relatively weak and tinny, reflecting its in-game stats. This contrasts with the more powerful and impactful sounds of other firearms, further reinforcing its role as a starter or backup weapon.
One could argue that the inclusion of the M1911, an American icon, in a post-Soviet setting like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is subtly symbolic. It could represent the intrusion of Western influence into the Zone or perhaps the resourcefulness of stalkers in cobbling together equipment from various sources. This is certainly subject to interpretation.
The Colt M1911 is featured in the game Kora-919. This relatively infrequent handgun can only be found in stashes or purchased at the 100 Rads bar. A stalker named Sparrow possesses a unique version that includes a non-removable silencer. It is the weakest .45 ACP handgun available in the STALKER game.

Beretta 92FS
The Beretta 92FS is extremely common in S.T.A.L.K.E.R., mirroring its real-world status as a widely used and readily available handgun. This abundance, while realistic, can sometimes make it feel less memorable than some of the rarer weapons. However, it also makes sense within the game’s lore, where stalkers often rely on readily available and easily maintained firearms.
Just like the M1911, the Beretta 92FS is a popular subject for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modders. Many mods aim to improve its animations, add attachments (like suppressors or red dot sights), or even create more realistic versions of the weapon. This highlights the community’s appreciation for the platform and desire to see it better represented in the game.
Pay close attention to the sound of the Beretta in-game. It often has a distinct report, perhaps slightly sharper or more metallic than other pistols. This subtle difference in sound design contributes to the weapon’s overall feel and helps distinguish it from other firearms in the game.
The Beretta 92FS is referred to as “Martha” in the game. The Beretta was initially designed to be a standard sidearm for mercenaries in the challenging Dead City level. In the final game, it appears only once, carried by a Duty member who must be rescued from bandits in the Dark Valley. Due to incorrect configuration parameters, the Beretta’s condition degrades absurdly fast and deals much more significant damage than the other 9x19mm pistols. Beretta pistols appear regularly in Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat.

Browning Hi-Power
The Hi-Power often occupies a sweet spot in terms of performance. It’s generally more accurate and powerful than the starting pistols but not as unwieldy or specialized as some larger-caliber handguns. This makes it a versatile choice for players who prefer a balanced approach.
While not explicitly stated, the Hi-Power’s design suggests a focus on ergonomics. Its grip angle and overall shape are generally comfortable and conducive to accurate shooting. While the game can’t fully convey the tactile feel, the weapon’s in-game performance (accuracy, recoil control) likely reflects this real-world characteristic.
While not as rare as some unique weapons, the Hi-Power (often called something similar, like “HP” or given a fictional designation) isn’t as common as the Beretta or Makarov. Its placement in the game world can indicate the status or equipment of certain characters or factions. Finding one might suggest you’re encountering more experienced stalkers or have ventured into more dangerous territory.
The Browning Hi-Power, a weapon that was inexplicably cut at the last minute, is fully functional in the game. However, it is not available for players to find or use. The game must be modified to include the handgun in trader inventories for purchase to activate it. It appears in all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games as the “HPSS-1m.”

Desert Eagle
The Desert Eagle, both in-game and in real life, is often seen as a status symbol. Its sheer size and power make it a statement piece. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R., possessing a Desert Eagle can indicate that a stalker is experienced, well-equipped, or perhaps even a bit of a show-off. It’s not always the most practical choice, but it makes an impression.
The Desert Eagle is a very popular weapon in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modding community. Modders frequently create detailed models, add custom animations, and implement different caliber variants. This speaks to the weapon’s iconic status and the community’s desire to see it faithfully represented in the game.
The developers likely balanced the Desert Eagle carefully to prevent it from being overpowered. Its high damage is offset by its other weaknesses, making it something of a “glass cannon.” It’s incredibly effective in the right hands and the right situations, but it can also be a liability if used carelessly.
The Desert Eagle is featured in the game in two different versions: the standard “Black Kite” using .45 ACP ammunition and the special “Big Ben” firing 9x39mm. It can be equipped with a silencer. Both variants are found in the Wild Territory. A second “Black Kite” is promised by Freedom stalker Max as a quest reward. The .45 ACP bullet is unrealistic since the Desert Eagle is unavailable in that caliber. Big-bore pistols that use rifle cartridges exist, but it is unlikely that a gunsmith could convert a Desert Eagle to fire such a round while retaining its original appearance.

SIG Sauer P220
The SIG P220 has a real-world reputation for reliability and accuracy. While S.T.A.L.K.E.R. might not explicitly state this, the in-game performance of the P220 (or its equivalent) often reflects these qualities. It’s likely to be a dependable and accurate pistol, even if it doesn’t have the raw power of other handguns.
Given its real-world association with law enforcement and the military, the P220 could be seen as a more “professional” or “serious” sidearm in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. It might be favored by more experienced stalkers or members of certain factions who prioritize reliability and accuracy. Of course, this is open to interpretation and depends on how the developers implement it.
The P220 likely occupies a balanced role in the gameplay. It’s not the most potent pistol, but it is reliable, accurate, and has manageable recoil. This makes it a good all-around sidearm for players who prefer a pragmatic approach. It’s a weapon you can count on when you need it, even if it doesn’t have other guns’ “wow” factor.
The SIG-Sauer P220 is featured in the game under the moniker “SIP-t M200,” showcasing its presence in a unique context. Members of the Duty faction, who possess advanced skills and experience, often utilize this sidearm, appreciating its reliability in challenging scenarios. Additionally, the P220 is prominently visible in the holsters of all characters donned in armor with holster capability, creating a striking visual regardless of the actual sidearm they wield. This detail adds depth to the characters, subtly underscoring their tactical readiness.
